A) CHAPTER 16 CORRECTIONS

1) Sentences 17th April

Find these sentences in Chapter 16. Copy and complete them. Remember that a sentence finishes when there is a full stop. 
  1. It was swelteringly hot, especially in the large classroom where they did their written papers.
  2. Maybe it was because they hadn’t seen what Harry had seen in the Forest, or because they didn’t have scars burning on their foreheads, but Ron and Hermione didn’t seem as worried about the Stone as Harry. 
  3. ‘Harry, relax, Hermione’s right, the Stone’s safe as long as Dumbledore’s around. 
  4. ‘Don’t you think it’s a bit odd,’ said Harry, scrambling up the grassy slope, ‘that what Hagrid wants more than anything else is a dragon, and a stranger turns up who just happens to have an egg in his pocket?
  5. Hagrid told that stranger how to get past Fluffy and it was either Snape or Voldemort under that cloak – it must’ve been easy once he’d got Hagrid drunk. 
  6. They had never been told where Dumbledore lived, nor did they know anyone who had been sent to see him. 
  7. ‘Something you have to say is more important than the Ministry of Magic, Potter?’ 
  8. ‘Professor, I think – I know – that Sn– that someone’s going to try and steal the Stone. 
  9. He’s found out everything he needs and now he’s got Dumbledore out of the way.
  10. ‘I’m going out of here tonight and I’m going to try and get to the Stone first.’

Write a definition in English for each of these words. First, make sure you understand them. Then, explain them in your own words.

To bark: The sound a dog makes. Woof!
Chest: It's a part of the body, between the neck and the stomach (on the front). // It's a large box, normally made of wood.
Flame: It’s a body of fire.
Chamber: It’s a big room, usually important or gloomy.
Knight: It’s a person in charge of protecting the kings and queens. It’s also a piece in chess.
Checkmate: It’s a movement in chess that means the opponent has completely lost the game.
Crown: It’s an elegant object you place on top of your head. It’s usually made of expensive materials and worn by kings or queen.
Poison: It’s a liquid or solid that will cause negative effects on the person taking or touching it.


B) PAST SIMPLE AND PRESENT PERFECT

Play this game to practice. We will do a special activity on Monday to check your understanding of the irregular verbs.

  4. IVM I have had a good activity on the 17th. The activity on 21st, I had it in other words but I have copied your definitions. And in the game, I have got 100/140.
